Introduction & Learning Outcomes
Welcome to the Newborn Care Specialist Certification Course.
This comprehensive program is designed to prepare students to confidently, safely, and professionally support newborns and families during the early postpartum period. Throughout this course, students will develop a strong foundation in newborn care, emotional support, safety practices, feeding support, sleep foundations, professionalism, and ethical standards.
This course goes beyond basic caregiving. It focuses on understanding newborn biology and behavior, responding with gentle and responsive care, maintaining professional boundaries, and supporting families with compassion and confidence.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Provide safe, non-medical newborn care, including feeding support, soothing, hygiene, sleep foundations, and daily routines
Recognize and respond appropriately to newborn cues and developmental needs
Educate and reassure families using calm, inclusive, and non-judgmental communication
Maintain professional boundaries, ethical standards, and confidentiality in private home settings
Document care clearly and objectively
Understand employment models, shift expectations, and professional responsibilities
Support families emotionally while staying within the scope of practice
Recognize red flags and refer families to appropriate professionals when needed
Practice self-care strategies to prevent burnout and support long-term career sustainability
Demonstrate hands-on skills through practicum experiences and reflective learning
Upon successful completion of this course and final assessment, students will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and professionalism required to begin working as a Newborn Care Specialist or to continue building their career in newborn and postpartum care.
This course emphasizes gentle, evidence-based practices, responsive caregiving, and respectful family-centered support.

Assessment Methods
Completion Requirements
To successfully complete the course, students must:
• Complete all modules
• Pass all quizzes with a minimum of 80%
• Complete practicum tasks and reflections
• Pass the final exam with at least 80%
• Module quizzes
• Practicum task completion
• Reflection journal submissions
• Final comprehensive exam
Upon successful completion, students will receive a Certificate of Completion recognizing their training as a Newborn Care Specialist.
